EDIT: I do not automatically friend back anyone just because they friended me – especially if I have no idea who they are and how they found me. If you're planning on hanging around in here, you might as well introduce yourself. If you add me and never say a word, I might not even notice you. | | Sunday, July 6th, 2008 | | 11:04 am |
100 Movies Ganked from deborahrgoldman:Below is the Entertainment Weekly's list of 100 Classic Movies of the past 25 years. Bold the ones you've seen, underline the ones you plan to. I also italicized the ones that I love, because that's just how I roll. I didn't bother with any markups apart from boldface, since I was more than capable of adding comments where necessary. But, just to keep my sweetie happy, I didn't add any graphical effects this time. - Pulp Fiction (1994)
- The Lord of the Rings trilogy (2001-03) – In theaters, and extended versions on DVD.
- Titanic (1997) – Successfully avoided.
- Blue Velvet (1986)
- Toy Story (1995) – But I still haven't watched the sequel.
- Saving Private Ryan (1998)
- Hannah and Her Sisters (1986)
- The Silence of the Lambs (1991) – Great movie. The others? Not so much.
- Die Hard (1988) – Seen/own 'em all. Yippie-ki-yay, motherfucker.
- Moulin Rouge (2001)

Happy Fourth of July And as I was just saying to Tez, there's no reason why those of you in the rest of the world can't raise a glass today. I mean, we drink on Saint Patty's Day even if we're not Irish, Cinco de Mayo even if we're not Mexican, Canada Day even if we're not Canadian, and so forth. Well, at least I know I do. Pastafarianism Before I left for work yesterday morning, Q told me she'd stolen a couple of bucks from me to buy eggs (since she was out and we were out). She said she was planning to make something I like. (She's been having fun trying out new things¹ recently.) She asked me if I had any guesses when I got home, but I hadn't really thought about it too much – yesterday was a busy day at work, and I just generally don't like playing guessing games. I wouldn't have guessed it anyway. Ravioli. I love ravioli, but I've never had homemade ravioli before. This was really good, and also rather different from any ravioli I'd ever had before. First of all, the only flour we had at home was whole wheat flour, so that's what the pasta was made of. (She apologized if that made it taste weird, but I happen to like whole wheat; plus, this way I could convince myself that it was healthy and that I was therefore entitled to a second helping.) She used the bread machine to knead the dough, before rolling it out flat to put in the filling (she was just finishing off the last of them when I arrived; she was making and boiling them about half a dozen at a time). The filling was chicken, garlic, and parmesan cheese (puréed in a blender). All told, it was yummy, and I have an awesome wife who's already trying to decide what to do differently the next time she tries making some… ¹And speaking of "trying out new things", the spearmint Q planted last year is growing like crazy; I'll have to pick a bunch of leaves and try a vodka infusion with them soon.

The Doctor Who/Right Said Fred Connection The British pop band Right Said Fred (known primarily, at least in the USA, for "I'm Too Sexy"), took their name from a 1962 novelty song named "Right Said Fred." That song, about a group of workmen struggling to move a large unspecified object (possibly a piano) was created by Bernard Cribbins. Cribbins has also appeared in a variety of roles as an actor (including an appearance on Fawlty Towers) over the last fifty years. His most recent job is playing Wilfred Mott (Donna Noble's grandfather) on Doctor Who. In the most recent episode, he attacks a dalek with a paint gun. This is not his first time facing daleks; Bernard Cribbins played a character named Tom Campbell in the 1966 film Daleks' Invasion Earth: 2150 A.D. (in which Peter Cushing, the Grand Moff Tarkin, played The Doctor). This makes Bernard the longest serving supporting actor in the history of the Doctor Who franchise (Take that, Sarah Jane Smith! You didn't meet the Doctor until 1973!) ( *snerk* ) | | 7:26 am |

Oh, What The Hell I just finished telling people that I had no desire to do another "list of 100 titles" meme in my journal, and then sexychicken comes along with a list of two hundred books. What the Hell, Liz, what Hell‽ However, I still had no desire to keep track of what boldface, italics, underline, and so forth meant; so let's hope this is easy to understand... ( Big Table. Not as funny as a Big Hat. ) | | 5:42 pm |
School Locked Down After 'Ninja' Sighted In Woods Barnegat, NJ — It's the case of the nonexistent ninja. Public schools in Barnegat were locked down briefly after someone reported seeing a ninja running through the woods behind an elementary school. Turns out the ninja was actually a camp counselor dressed in black karate garb and carrying a plastic sword. Police tell the Asbury Park Press the man was late to a costume-themed day at a nearby middle school. The lockdown began shortly after 9 a.m. Wednesday and lasted until 9:30. (Ganked from _j3551c4_.) Silly people. The simple fact that you spotted him so easily proves that it wasn't a real ninja. | | 11:28 am |
